Have you heard?

The CPSC has issued a stay for the CPSIA law until Feb 10, 2010!!! So that means I can stay in business for at least another year. I'm so excited!!! Read all about it here. Who knows what will happen after that, but a year seems like a good start to me.

The Shower Bandit

If the rest of the day goes anything like it's start...I'm in serious trouble. I decided it was a good idea to get a shower even though Dave had already left for work. That's where it all went wrong.

Shower = Good
3 year olds left alone (make that one 3 year old) = Bad

Sam sitting in his bouncer in the bathroom. Check.
(I played peek-a-boo behind the curtain a couple of times. He was not impressed.)

The doors to our bedroom sufficiently locked. Check.

Girls on the couch drinking apple juice and watching Martha Speaks. Check.

Interruption #1
Mommy, can I have some string cheese? Yes, when I'm done.
Interruption #2
Mommy, here is your towel (throwing hand towel into shower). Thanks Hun????
Interruption #3
Mommy, can I eat cupcakes (showing me the bag of cupcakes)? Not now, please put them back on the counter. And make sure the refrigerator door is closed!

While I'm combing my hair she walks back in, mouth full, carrying the keepsake box for her baby teeth and it's wet!!! First of all, I know the box was in my sewing room...my heart sinks. When I take it from her, it feels too heavy. Fearing that it's full of water, I open it. It's not filled with water...it's filled with C A K E! And so is her mouth. Bad...bad...bad...I tell you.

The box, which is made of paper, is not salvedgeable. I found it on eBay as a set, by Susan Branch when we found we were having twins and I needed one to match (or at least coordinate) the one I had bought years earlier. I big-red-sparkly-puffy-heart love Susan Branch, almost as much as Mary Engelbreit! Tossing the box in the garbage I head straight for my sewing room, bracing myself for the disaster I am sure awaits me.

What I found was this...

Yes, they were all lined up in a row and one big bite out of each one. I guess she couldn't decide which one she liked the best.

She hasn't mastered the zip-top bag yet. Pink pinking shears no less. There were about 3 more wrappers than cupcakes. I wonder if I will find any surprises hidden somewhere. This girl is a chipmunk and likes to store food in odd places. Drawers and purses are a favorite.

Is it bedtime yet?

Lambie gets a crown

maybe it's because I hadn't been feeling well all day...

maybe it's because I had just finished cleaning lemonade from the kitchen floor (all too reminicent of this time)...

maybe it's because I haven't been getting much sleep...

that somehow I chose laughter over crying.

You see, I had banished the girls to their playroom after ^ the above mentioned lemonade incident. Then came the ominous words spoken as Dave walked in the door "Honey, did you know the light in your sewing room is on?" followed by a little girl walking up the stairs saying "I am sorry Daddy" making me brace for the worst. Sure, it was bad. Embroidery floss all over the floor, the paper DMC numbers strewn about never to make it back to their homes, etc, etc...

But in the middle of it all was this...

Photobucket

I could barely supress my smile as I shooed the culprits out of the room explaining that "when you know what you are doing is wrong (hence the I am sorry before we even saw the mess), then you shouldn't do it at all." I don't think that lesson is sinking in.

When asked what they were doing in there..."Our lambies needed crowns." Can you really blame them? I think she looks kind a cute. Not so cute are the tiny needles I am still stepping on. I guess my childproof box isn't so childproof...neither are the door locks.

Is this the end?

I guess I'm still hoping for a miracle and if you haven't heard why, please read this blog post over at Gock's Frocks. Kristen says it way better than I ever could.

Here are what very well may be my final listings on eBay...*sniff*sniff* It was a fun run while it lasted! Yes...I know I'm being a little melodramatic.

Sale Sale Sale

Beginning Feb 10th, I will be closing up my Etsy shop until further notice. It makes me so sad to do it especially since I only just started back this month. But the new CPSIA law is putting me out of business and I choose not to put my family in a position where I could be fined $100,000. That's just crazy talk!

So...I have reduced the prices in my Etsy shop to help use up my fabric stash, and I will give a 10% discount on all oders of 3 or more items. I'm not exactly sure how that works in Etsy, so it will most likely be in the form of a PayPal refund, or I can set up a private listing for you. This will be on a first come first serve basis. Meaning, that to start, my lead time will be 4 weeks and after that I will quote you a leadtime as my schedule fills up. I will relist items as fabric allows. If you don't see an item listed, just ask and I will see if I can still make it for you. I will be adding a few more pieces this week (Under the Big Top and a Wizard of Oz dress).

The fine print: this sale only applies to Etsy store items. EBay auctions items are not included.

three little birds...

Photobucket

Isn't this just the most adorbale little print? I practically giggled when I saw it and immediately wanted to hoard it all for myself. I found it at JoAnn of all places, while searching for some fun flannel prints to make pj's out of for the girls. I bought 4 yards, but now I want to go back and buy a whole bolt so I can make a pair for me and then for the girls in every size. Oh and wouldn't this be delightful as a pillow case? How fun to use for sleepovers, when they trot off to sleep at a friends house? Yep, gotta do that too!!!

I have added more listings to my "cleaning out the closets" event on eBay. Next will be the shoes!

Resells, resells, we all scream for resells!

23 listings and counting!

I've done it! I've finally decided to let go of some of my own resells. I've got four listed already and more to come as well as our past summer clothes since they won't look good on Sam...hehehe.

You can find them here.

I love...

...that I am greated by smiles and coos every time he wakes up.
...that he wants to talk and smile after he eats.
...his little 'Elvis' lips.
...the way he rasies one eyebrow.
...that his little nose scrunches up when he smiles big just like his Grandma.
...that he is such a happy, easy-going baby.
...to see him concentrate on kicking and making his bouncer bouncy.
...that he has his whole life ahead of him and can be anything he wants to be.
...that God saw fit to bless us with Samuel.
...that he unconditionally loves his Mama.
...everything about this little guy.

National Bankruptcy Day

Save Handmade Toys

In these difficult economic times, our government passed a poorly written law last August, H.R. 4040, the Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This law goes into effect on February 10th, which has been dubbed National Bankruptcy Day because of all the people that it will put out of business. In an effort to keep our children safe from lead poisoning (which I am all for) they wrote a very broad piece of legislation that also affects handmade one-of-a-kind pieces of clothing, not just the metal trinkets we import from other countries. How exactly is the handmade clothing that I make for my customers (who don't chew on them) dangerous? It's not! But now I have to prove it.

The law requires that all items intended for sale to children under the age of 12 (including clothing), be tested for lead. This is an expensive process and one that requires the destruction of the actual garment. There is no way I can afford the chemical testing necessary, and if I could, the mere testing of my clothing would leave me with nothing to sell as it would be destroyed in the process.

I have done my part by signing a petition and writing letters. Please join me in saving the handmade items we all love by doing your part too. Kristen of Gock's Frocks has a great blog post with all the necessary links. She was also interviewed by her local news station. You can check out the news clip here. Way to go Kristen!

A WofOz Teaser

Photobucket

I love these yummy colors all together. It reminds me of a brand new box of Crayola Crayons. We'll be taking pics in the next week and then it's ready to sell! I had a lot of fun creating this one.

"Sweet Tweet"

I just listed this oldie but goodie. It would be perfect for Easter.
You can see my listings here. I didn't list the knit tops, but they can be added separately. And I'm offering to custom design a blouse for you in place of the one modeled if you prefer.

Santa was good to us...too good!

Apparently he stuck us with the bills too, so I'm returning to work earlier than expected. Thankfully Sam is already an obedient little guy. He decided to sleep 9 hours straight for the past three nights. Go Sam!!! A well rested Mommy is a creative Mommy and one who is ready to start burning the midnight oil again. Hmmm...that's a little contradictory isn't it?

I've started stocking my Etsy shop and will put up a few listings on eBay as well. First will be a few oldies but goodies that I still have fabric for, then I have two new collections to list that I have not offered on eBay or Etsy before.
