Just for Kicks

Me - "Allison, put your hand here and you can feel New Baby kicking."

Allison - Promptly did so looking up at me in awe of what she felt.

When kicking stopped...

Allison - "OK, now I kick New Baby"

Me - "Oh, no , no, no...you don't ever kick New Baby. You don't ever kick anyone."

Allison - "OK. Mommy, you kick New Baby now?"

Night Night

Tonight is the first night the girls are sleeping in their new room. It feels like such a big milestone for them. I remarked to Dave last night, as we set up the first bed, that it feels really great as a parent to be able to give something so wonderful to your kids. I am seriously in love with their new room and I love how high their beds are and that we installed the beadboard on the knee-wall ourselves. I even figured out how to handle the 2 outlets on that wall and we did it perfectly.

This is just the beginning though, I still have a bunch of sewing projects to finish up. Fabric wall art for the green wall to cover the ugly electrical panel. Curtains, still not sure what they will look like. Bedskirts, I have several ideas just need to pick one. And some more fabric/applique art for the wall right when you enter the room. We've decided that for now we can't have anything else in the room of interest or they won't sleep. So, sadly the birds in their nest had to be removed, no dresser between their beds that I was planning on painting green and I can't put out the metal buckets I found at Babies R Us for dolls and toys. Even though this room has only 8'x10' of useable floorspace, I have big plans for a lot of punch in a small space.

So for now...sweet dreams my prescious little girls!

Night night!

I've been thinking...

...a lot about Disney World this week. We were there just a year ago, so we won't be going back again until Nov 2009, but it's been on my mind. So...I thought I'd share some past designs I made for a Magical trip for some very lucky little boys. Can't you just see some little guy skipping down Mainstreet or through MGM Studios thinking he is the coolest kid there (because he is!).

Due to liscensing this is the most you will ever see of them, so I thought I'd show them off to you here. The Toy Story pair took me 30 hours to complete, and that doesn't include all of the drawing/re-drawing and planning that went in to them. I would have to say that these were a true labor of love. Too bad I never had a little guy to model them for me before they went to their happy home. If New Baby ends up being a boy, I am going to have to make some of these for our trip next year.

Splish Splash...The Belly...Good Hair Day

The girls LOVED using our Slip 'n Slide for the first time over the 4th week-end. I was out there with them again today and it was so much fun. I never had one as a kid, but I know I would have loved it too. My tutti fruity little girl kept sneeking off to pick raspberries from our neighbors garden below our hill. Sorry Deb! I think she only ate 2.

I've been meaning to post these pics of my growing belly for a few weeks now, but I don't look much different so pretend we just took them. Oh and just because I was having a "good hair day" a included a close-up too. The other day we were in Pottery Barn Kids buying the girls bedding and Dave said he had to do a double take, not realizing it was me. Ever since, I've been flat-ironing my hair and the pony tails are a thing of the past (well...except for right now). It' so easy to get in a rut and not make an effort when there doesn't seem to be an important reason to get dolled up. Sorry Hun...YOU are important enough. Now, that should get me dinner at Famous Dave's soon...I hope...hehehe.

Now for the pics...

Painting and Decorating...What fun!

Last week was filled with household projects, the least of which was painting the girls' new Big Girl room. I asked them what color room they wanted and they both declared PINK right away (thank goodness!). So I taped color swatches to the wall and they each, individually, picked the same color. How cute is that! I did have to change it a bit once I decided on bedding sets. I went to PB Kids to match them and found I needed one a little less blue (shhh...don't tell the girls on me).

So we hyped it up all week by asking if they wanted to help paint their new room. They couldn't wait for the big day to arrive. They kept calling it their office since it used to be Daddy's office. I decided to paint most of it myself and leave some white space for them to paint on and then quick roller over it for the final finish. It worked perfectly!

A little bit about the paint - I got the idea to use a fun green for the upper wall in their room from this post by Jenn of takeabowcreations. It's Sherwin Williams Melange Green SW 6710. The pink I chose is called Partytime SW 6849. Did you know that Home Depot will match those colors too? They even had the color codes already in their system! Did you also know that if you wrap your brush in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge you can use it the next day? I love that trick, because I hate having to wash out my brush when I'm going to need it for the same color a little later.

Not the best shot, but the lighting was bad that time of day,
I promise I'll show more when the room is all done.

Their room is teeny tiny at just 10'x10' so not much else will fit besides two twin beds, which are already on their way. Oh and we have a lovely fuse box to hide on the wall that I painted green. I've decided to hang 3-4 rectangular canvases, vertically, so one can cover it fully. I'll either paint or applique something to stretch over the frame to match their bedding. The lower portion of that wall will be covered in white beadboard.
Here's how I will be decorating their room.

Dancing Kitties

I have a lot of catching up to do. After being sick for 2 weeks with a sinus infection and double ear infection (me, not the kiddos), then having Dave home for a week f vacation to work on projects (another one is scheduled for August), I just haven't been able to keep up with computer stuff. To all those I owe an e-mail too (Amy, Michelle & Jessica come to mind), I apologize. It's on the way hopefully yet today.

Last week my Dear Aunt Bonnie passed away after a year and a half battle with breast cancer. I was able to visit her just two days before she passed, but seeing her like that really threw me. She was 53 and my own Mother was 34 (my age now) when she died of the same thing. I thought I was ok with it all until seeing Bonnie. The way she had changed so much, made me realize that my own 6 year old little girl memories weren't accurate. It was quite a shock to realize that my Mother had gone through the same changes and suffering and at such a young age. Anyway, I ended up not even being able to go to the funeral, instead I stayed in bed most of the day crying. I just couldn't be around other people. I feel horrible about it now, but at the time it was the only decision I could make.

On a happier note...we had a quick rain shower the other day so I ushered the girls out the door to find some puddles to splash in. By the time we found our boots and raincoats the rain had stopped and the sun came back out. They had lots of fun splashing around though!

I have also decided to list a few of my "best sellers" from last year's creations this summer. They are all full of detail (applique and/or hand embroidery). I should have known I couldn't stay away completely. Hehehe.

My Raggedy Ann sets are ending this Thursday (told you I was behind, I should have told you all about that here last week!). Sign up for my Newsletter so you don't miss the next two I'll be listing later this month.
